What happens to dogs after they are dropped off at a shelter?

One of the saddest, most cruel actions one can take is voluntarily giving their dog to a shelter. Although everyone has personal reasons as to why they do this, there is not one acceptable excuse. There are many organizations in America which help to take care of pups until they are either adopted by a loving family, or until they pass. Unfortunately, not all are like this. Many dogs are euthanized, within days of being left at the shelter. Every year, within 1.2 million dogs are put down at shelters across the U.S. (ASPCA).
No dog deserves to be brought into this world then forced to leave due to careless, neglecting individuals. They are here on this earth to make humans happy when nothing else can! The ASPCA states that shelters take in approximately 7.6 million pets a year, while only 2.7 million are actually leaving the shelter. Where are all of the other animals going? They are going to be put to death when they should be frollicing in a park and being loved by us humans. Do not give up your dog to a shelter! There are plenty of other options which will make yourself and your pup happy in the end.
